Kazakhstan
Our representative in Kazakhstan was officially recognized
by the foreign ministry in 1999
Kazakhstan invites approved adoptive parents to visit their
orphanages in order to pick out their own child.
The
children: Russian and Asian girls and boys of
seven months and older become available for adoption. The
majority of children available are Kazakh. Kazakhs are a
mixture of Turkish and Mongolian. The children are registered
in a data bank and well cared for in government orphanages.
Qualifications:
Couples married at least one year and between
the ages of 21 and 55 are eligible to adopt. Single women
must be 25 years of age. Both spouses must be US citizens.
The
wait and the process: Approximately three to
six
months after approval of the adoptive parent’s dossier by
the ministry in Kazakhstan, prospective parents are notified
regarding an invitation to travel to visit children in the
region. Both parents must be present to select the child and
stay for a bonding period of 14 days, at which time the judge
sets the court hearing. Depending on the date of the court
hearing you can return home or wait out the time in Kazakhstan.
After the court hearing there is a 15-day waiting period.
When the 15 days are completed, our representative helps
the families obtain the child’s birth certificate and adoption
decree. Then one or both spouses travel to Almaty
to obtain the child’s passport, complete the U.S. Embassy
approved medical examination, and obtain the U.S. orphan visa.
After the orphan visa, one or both parents fly to Astana
to register the child.
Destinations:
Adoptive parents make their own travel arrangements in cooperation
with their international case worker and our LNI representative.
They fly via Amsterdam or Frankfurt to Almaty, Kazakhstan.
All travel arrangements within Kazakhstan will be made with
the assistance of our representative.
