Ukraine

Our representative in Ukraine has been officially recognized by the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports since 1999

The children: Children between fifteen months and eight years become available for adoption through the State Department for Adoptions and Protection of Rights of the Child (SDAPRC) under the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports in Kiev. One child or siblings may be adopted.  Under Ukrainian law, children are entered on a data bank for 15 months. They are well cared for in government orphanages. During that time, only Ukrainians can adopt these children. After that date, the children may be adopted internationally.

Qualifications: Couples married at least one year and at least 21 years old qualify. There is no upper age limit. Applicants may already have children.

The process: Both spouses travel to Kiev approximately six to twelve months after your documents are approved by the Adoption Office in Kiev. Once you select a child and initiate the adoption, the process takes about twenty days to finalize.

Travel: The stay abroad is about three to five weeks depending on how soon the adoptive parents agree on a child to adopt. In rare instances, two trips of about two weeks each may be required instead of one trip.

Your destination: First to Kiev, then on to the city where the child resides. After the adoption decree is granted, the family travels back to Kiev for one or two days to initiate the US orphan visa.

Airlines: Adoptive parents make their own travel plans in coordination with their international case worker and the LNI representative. From the United States to Kiev, you may fly Lufthansa, KLM, Delta, British Airlines or Air France.
