Vietnam
Licensed in Vietnam since 2006
Effective
12/10/07, we have placed a temporary hold on accepting new
applications for the Vietnam program.
The
Children:
Children of both genders from
under one to fifteen years old may be adopted. Previously,
LNI placed 115 children from orphanages in Vietnam. Due to
poverty, most of the children have been relinquished by their
parents; others have been abandoned. They are Asian, of
either Vietnamese descent or another migratory cultural group
known as the Hmong.
Qualifications:
Married and single adoptive parents—at least 25
years old— must be at least 20 years older than the children
they wish to adopt. Families may already have children in the
household, and prior divorce is acceptable.
Length
of Process:
Once the dossier
is completed, it must be legalized by a Vietnamese Consulate;
then it will be sent by LNI to Vietnam for translation.
Following translation, the dossier will be submitted to the
International Adoption Department (IAD) for registration and
approval. After approval, the dossier is sent on to one of the
provinces in which we are licensed. The wait for a referral is
estimated to be between 12 and 24 months. Once the referral is
accepted, families will travel to Vietnam approximately one
month later in order to complete the adoption.
Travel:
The adoption trip
will be approximately 2 to 3 weeks in length. There are few, if
any, direct flights from the US to Vietnam. Vietnam Airlines
has flight share agreements with several US airlines. Depending
upon the final destination in Vietnam (Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh
City) flight transfers will usually occur in Hong Kong. While
in country, families will be guided through the process by Los
Niños’ bilingual representative.
